3rd-4th July International Conference “Architecture of Challenges. Rebuilding Ukraine”

The rebuilding of Ukraine after the war is an essential task that requires extensive discussion and cooperation at the international level. The National Institute of Cultural Heritage has the pleasure of inviting you to participate in the conference, the main objective of which is to create a platform for joint discussion on the numerous challenges of this process. The registration is already closed.

Once the war is over, the reconstruction of Ukraine is bound to encompass all spheres of life, including the architecture and infrastructure of cities, towns, and villages. Achievement of this task will require cooperation and solidarity on an international scale.

The rebuilding of Ukraine is part of a series of global challenges, such as ensuring access to finite agricultural land and water resources and protecting biodiversity. The decline in primary natural resources crucial for survival begs a reconsideration of the residential housing schemes.

Another critical challenge is acquiring energy sources that not only do not harm the environment and climate but protect them. Rational investment planning and using existing infrastructure and available materials, including recycled ones, are becoming key factors in the reconstruction process.

War shatters social structures, bringing with it the death of family members and forcing difficult and sometimes dramatic decisions about one’s fate and that of loved ones. Finding appropriate forms of rebuilding social ties is one of the most important post-war challenges. In addition to the obvious and practical answers to these questions, there are also deeper issues concerning human identity and culture.

The aim of the conference, to be held at the Royal Lazienki Park in Warsaw, is to bring together the academic community and representatives of the cultural, scientific, and economic elite to discuss the crisis of war in Ukraine and to engage in a joint discussion on the range of challenges involved.

Challenge 1: Directions for the rebuilding of Ukraine
Challenge 2: Architectural heritage and its protection in the context of the rebuilding of Ukraine.
Challenge 3: Principles of sustainable development in relation to the process of rebuilding Ukraine.
Challenge 4: Architecture in response to the refugee crisis in Ukraine.
Challenge 5: Urban planning for revitalising areas destructed by the war
